Thank you to everyone who turned out to learn more about plans for the regeneration of the Woodside precinct and shared their thoughts and views on planning and design to date.
Specialist engagement consultants, Creating Communities, was in engaged to undertake community and stakeholder engagement during most of 2020.

This included sending out flyers to more than 3,900 dwellings, including every home in the Town of East Fremantle, and extending into Palmyra.

There were nearly 40 meetings including a drop-in session at the Town of East Fremantle’s open day, two focus groups sessions for the general community and one for local businesses and community organisations.

There were 15 one-on-one meetings with neighbours who live close to the site, 14 meetings with the Town of East Fremantle, the State Design Review Panel, and the Heritage Council, as well as six meetings with other stakeholders, including government departments, local MPs, Fremantle Chamber of Commerce, and the Autism Association of WA (a near neighbour).

Of the people who filled out a feedback form, 75 per cent were either supportive or very supportive. They liked the fact that the development was for aged care. They also liked the design of the aged care facility, the plans to refurbish Woodside House, and the landscaping and open space.

The most common themes of concern included overlooking and overshadowing, the visual impact of the building’s bulk, traffic and parking, and the impact during construction.

All feedback has been provided to the planners and architects working on the project who will review the plans and designs to see what can be modified to emphasise the positives and address concerns.
